Karen is a finance specialist with over 20 years of leadership and management experience in the financial services industry, and brings significant value to the IDB team. Her knowledge and experience spans the breath of financial services sector, thus equipping her with key applicable skills. This includes audit and assurance services, capital markets and banking at the international, national and microfinance institution levels. The experience comprises almost 10 years with direct Board responsibility, and 12 in executive management with Board accountability.
Being responsible for the overall leadership of IDB, she negotiated and concluded the signing of a Line of Credit with the Exim Bank of India, and led its roll-out to the market.
In the past, she has served as a member of the Capital Markets Tribunal, an alternative dispute resolution body set up by the National Treasury of Kenya and an Advisor to the Board of Trustees of the Micro-Enterprise Support Programme Trust (MESPT), a joint project between the Government of Kenya and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark (DANIDA).
Her professional qualifications include a Master’s in Business Administration from Murdoch University, Australia; a Bachelor of Commerce from Nairobi University; and active membership in the Institute of Certified Public Accountants (ICPAK) and the Institute of Financial and Investment Analyst (ICIFAK).
She is an Alumna of the Maastricht Business School in The Netherlands, and of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research, Geneva.
